Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick

BY Michael Ricketson

One of the best examples of a fairytale Hollywood marriage is that of beloved actors Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick.

The two first met when they were both young actors only interested in acting, not the fame and money. In fact, Parker told Harper’s Bazar in a 2013 interview, “When we were young people, all we ever wanted was to be good working actors.” Matthew finally conjured up the courage to ask her out in February 1992. They went to a movie, and the rest is Hollywood Magic history.

Their Hollywood love story would develop almost as fast as their careers.

They had both already been successful actors with Matthew’s portrayal of the iconic Ferris Bueller in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, and Sarah’s breakthrough role as the title character in Broadway’s Annie. Broderick had already won a Tony Award for his role in 1983’s Brighton Beach Memoirs. Parker would later clean up with a total of six Golden Globe Awards for her role in and producing of Sex and the City.

After dating for 5 years, the two entered into Hollywood wedded bliss at a private surprise wedding ceremony at a synagogue on May 19, 1997. All of the guests thought they were gathering for a common party. Sarah shocked everyone by wearing a designer black gown by Morgane Le Fay. In a 2018 People Magazine interview, she commented about her poor choice by saying, “I never thought about a wedding dress – never. I never had one daydream about it. At one point I just simply remember thinking, “God, I really hope he asks me to marry him. I don’t know when or why, but it was fairly early on in our relationship.”

A Happy Family Life

On October 28, 2002, the happy couple welcomed their first child when Sarah gave birth to James Wilkie Broderick. They tried everything to have another child naturally, but it wasn’t meant to be. After so many unsuccessful attempts, the couple turned to surrogacy. To their delight, twin daughters, Marion Loretta Elwell, and Tabitha Hodge Broderick were born on June 22, 2009. If it were up to Sarah,” I would give birth as often as I could if I could,” she told Vogue in 2010. They have kept their children’s lives fairly private from the start, but Sarah has honored her kids with birthday posts on Instagram. They’ve got it all as one of the most successful Hollywood married couples: So much so, that sometimes people find it hard to believe.

Recently some terrible rumors have been kicked up, suggesting this enduring marriage was on the rocks.

The awful attempts to cast a shadow on an otherwise wonderful relationship are just part and parcel of living under the scrutiny of the public and the rumor mills. Parker spoke out about the claims, dismissing them.

Hollywood International People applaud these two young lovers, as an example of what a dedicated marriage truly is. Even in Tinseltown goodness can win as they both seem to still live a life full of young energy and laughter. Laughter seems to be a common thread in most successful marriages; Never stop laughing, never stop loving, and keep the dedication and honesty alive.
